Jackie when I woke up it was New Year's day
There was snow outside but I went for a walk anyway
I kissed her as I grabbed my coat
Closed the door quiet so she wouldn't hear
I just wanted some time to myself to think of how
Yet another year could go by and just disappear
It's New Year's Day
It's New Year's Day again
Another New Year's Day
It's New Year's Day again
How tell me how
Tell me how
Are we here again
A new year again
Jackie, I wore that coat you gave me till it frayed
But in times all things they finally get too thinly spread
It was only a year ago I gave it away
It was finally time to shed
And now it's New Year's Day
It's New Year's Day Again
Another New Year's Day
Another New Year's Day again
How tell me how
Tell me how
Are we here again
So fast we're here again
She's better for me than I bet you would have been
If our paths converged in someplace where they just did not
And a question ever crossed my lips
Though I know it's best that I forgot
And now it's New Year's Day
It's New Year's Day Again
Another New Year's Day
It's New Year's Day Again
New Year's Day
It's New Year's Day Once Again
New Year's Day
Again
Jackie, when I got home the first day was through
Another year was here
I resolved not to think of you
This is a reflective piano ballad about trying to let go as yet another year ends and a new one begins. It was written in 2006, but it fit the theme of hautnting memories, so I dug it out. New Year's is often a time for reflections on the past, which may lead to resolutions to move on.
