Sandcastles

All that stands before me is sand in the distance
All that stands behind is my life
Someone send my love to my mother and father
Ease them in their sorrow should they should weep

Fires burning on now and there's little movement
Numbness will follow the bleeding
Staring off to wonder of power and glory
Always a question of lies

Well there's a statue crumbling in the sand
A monument to nothing but a stubborn dead man.
And all the tyrants, all the truly unjust
One day all their works on earth will just be dust
Don't put your faith in leaders who only whore
All of them have already been bought and paid for

If I see mirage out there in the desert
If I see a face that's forgotten
Will it be familiar or will it be foreign?
Will it be a friend or a foe?

Soldiers and pawns just lie in the desert
As the moves are made by the players
Will the desert claim me as another fallen?
Will I join the sand and the dust here?

Well there's a statue crumbling in the sand
A monument to nothing but a stubborn dead man.
And all the tyrants, all the truly unjust
One day all their works on earth will just be dust
Don't put your faith in leaders who only whore
All of them have already been bought and paid for

Bought and paid for
Bought and paid for

I'm not in awe of the past, mythic ages
Many of our heroes were fools and not sages
Why praise their works? Why all the fuss?
Though we stand on their shoulders
They're not giants, no not taller than us

Well there's a statue crumbling in the sand
A monument to nothing but a stubborn dead man.
And all the tyrants, all the truly unjust
One day all their works on earth will just be dust
Don't put your faith in leaders who only whore
All of them have already been bought and paid for

Bought and paid for
Bought and paid for

I don't want to ruin your simple happy fable
All men may be brothers
So were Cain and Able
