Footprints

You left our presence too soon
Taken though you still had so much to do
Though sometimes things happen this way
But you're still on my mind
You left your footprints on the sands of time.
It's hard to believe in a plan
It's hard to believe that a story so short
Was not meant for much better things
And though justice is blind
You left your footprints on the sands of time
While evil men strutting free and proud
Are not even punished in fact they're crowned
You're gone
While mad directories take the stage
Pumping the masses full of rage
You're gone
If you were here you would laugh
You could still smile in days such as these
They speak of life's chains and life's trees
Branches tracing, sublime
Merely footprints on the sands of time
So I'll light a candle for you
And read off the poems that you used to say
And although it's just a new day
Living in the dust and grime
Leaving out footprints on the sands of time
I'll think of words you once said
About how to make what you can in this life
Off we must go who remain
Not ceasing you know I'm
Leaving my footprints on the sands of time
Living in the dust and grime
Branches tracing, sublime
And though justice is blind
You're still on my mind
You left your footprints
