This is a very dissonant song, yet it's just a single acoustic guitar. I tried to make it catchy, yet odd and unnerving. I think there are a bunch of augmented chords but I don't remember the progression. The lyric is about the mindlessness of many jobs (specifically the temp data entry job I had during the summer of 1995) and how management is not interested in constructive feedback or new ideas. It's not a great lyric but works with the music.

A small idea
that's what I had
That's what I had for them

A slight new way
that was my aim
That's what I hoped to give

An active move
was all I made
That's how I said to them

A hopeful smile
that's what they saw
That's how I spoke to them

I dared to think
That's not allowed
Push your buttons
don't act too proud
dared to create
that you can't do
no more of your movements
or else you are through

Atrophy of the mind
Atrophy of the mind
that's O.K. I don't mind

A harsh reprimand
that's what I heard
That's what they had for me

A scornful word
was my reward
That's what they gave to me

A haughty threat
was what I got
That's what they said to me

An icy glance
that's what I saw
That's how they spoke to me

I dared to think
That's not allowed
Push your buttons
don't act too proud
dared to create
that you can't do
no more of your movements
or else you are through

Atrophy of the mind
Atrophy of the mind
that's O.K. I don't mind
